Deep Water Recovery System (DWRS)

Making use of its many disciplines, Mammoet developed an ingenious in-house Deep Water Recovery System (DWRS) specially designed for the salvage operation in the gulf of Finland.

The core of this system consists of remote operated underwater excavators, constructed using parts from standard excavators. The excavating arm is mounted on a 2-meter high foot with legs that rest on the seabed. The arm is fitted with a camera, special suckers, and long cables connected to the cabin located at the surface.

As well as the cabins, the pontoon also had two control room containers for controlling the underwater cranes, some forklift trucks, and two MPC cranes used to lower the DWRS and lift up the salvaged cargo.

This system represents a breakthrough in the salvage world. It provides much more efficiency and certainty in comparison with the traditional salvage methods using divers.
